Government of Canada Eliminating Cheques by 2016

Posted on Nov 10, 2014

The Government of Canada is phasing out cheques in favour of direct deposit by April of 2016.

This will impact the receipt of income tax refunds and other payments administered by the Canada Revenue Agency such as the University Child Care Benefit (UCCB), Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) or GST Credit. It will also impact amounts received under other government programs such as the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, and Employment Insurance.

More information on how to sign up for direct deposit as an individual or a business can be found on the websites for Public Works and Government Services Canada or Canada Revenue Agency.
